How difficult is it to change accountants?
It is not difficult at all to change accountants. What is most helpful is if the client is able to provide their most recent tax returns and/or financial statements to help transition the flow of data.
Why do people change accountants?
Reasons for switching include retirement of their prior CPA, relocation, entering a new business that requires industry expertise, or dissatisfaction with the level of service or communication provided by their previous accountant.
What should I look for in a CPA firm?
I suggest that a prospective client interview a few CPAs that have been recommended to them by someone they know, like, and trust. Look for synergies in communication style, and whether or not they have similar philosophies regarding handling and reporting of financial data. In the end, your accountant should be someone you enjoy working with and are fully comfortable asking questions and discussing potentially sensitive financial or business information.

That will depend upon the nature of the relationship and the services agreed upon.

A bookkeeper is usually necessary when bookkeeping becomes too cumbersome and gets in the way of the business owner conducting business and generating revenue for their company.
Is my business too small or too large for an outside CPA?
Every size business can benefit from working with an outside CPA, whether a small start up venture or a multi-million business. CPAs are trained and experienced professionals who guide business owners through the myriad of tax rules and consequences of their transactions.
